Other Sights is Hiring a Coop Student

Other Sights is seeking a fall Coop Placement Student to assume the responsibilities of an Assistant to support curatorial projects that address the politics of public space and assume responsibilities that further the administrative goals of the Other Sights’ Producer Team. The Assistant will be given a thorough orientation to Other Sights’ operations, shadow the work of the General Manager, and work closely with project curators, artists and participants through phases of research, planning, coordination, presentation, communication, public outreach and documentation. The Assistant will have the opportunity to work on three Other Sights Projects during their placement. The Assistant will also participate in biweekly producer meetings and workshops where they will develop a strong understanding of the dynamics and collaborative nature of this collective organization.

Curatorial and Administrative Assistant for Other Sights for Artists’ Projects

Applicants should:

  • Have a strong interest in contemporary art and curatorial practices and in artist-run-centre culture
  • Be curious, independent, efficient, and organized
  • Be keen to explore inventive approaches to public programming
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrate interests in working directly with diverse publics and in working collaboratively
  • Have proficiency with photo documentation, Word, Excel, Photoshop
  • Have experience with blogs, Facebook, Twitter, and website updating

Duties and responsibilities will include:

Administrative Support

  • Develop, create and consolidate the Other Sights’ press and print ephemera archive both online and in print
  • Develop and execute social media campaigns for The Future is Floating Project and the FLOOD Project
  • Assist with ongoing communications and media promotion for the Blue Cabin Floating Artist Residency
  • Document and share Other Sights events and activities online, and update project pages on the OS website
  • Update and maintain project management timelines for projects and take meeting minutes as needed
  • Oversee MailChimp announcements and online promotion of OS fall programming

Curatorial Support

  • Work with General Manager to oversee project production schedules for FLOOD and The Future is Floating
  • Work with General Manager and Other Sights Producers to develop project related event programming
  • Assist with final reporting to funders

The Assistant’s main point of contact will be Other Sights’ General Manager who will oversee, evaluate and report on the Student’s term of employment.  **Please note, it is requested that the successful applicant continues to work reduced hours (10-12hrs/wk) from December 14 until January 28th, 2019.

Hourly rate: $18

Start & End Dates: September 9 – January 24, 2018

30hrs/wk from Sep 9 – Dec 13, 12rs/wk for Dec 16 – Jan 24 – Total Placement Hours: 480
