Other Sights and FLEET are hiring a Community Liaison.

This is a community minded role where the successful applicant will work with many different artists and organizations connected to the FLEET Project: FLEET’s General Manager, FLEET’s Project Manager, FLEET’s Indigenous Advisory Committee and Other Sights. FLEET and Other Sights are committed to furthering our ongoing relationships with Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh. The incumbent will play a fundamental role in continuing Other Sights’ conversations with Host Nations and continuing to build opportunities for collaboration and partnership. The Community Liaison will work with The FLEET General Manager to develop the potential for FLEET’s new studio (fabrication in-process) to reside on Indigenous territory, as determined by guidance and input from the Nation/s. Ideally this dedicated MST FLEET studio would become an Indigenous led space and resource, an exciting cultural amenity supporting the needs and activities of the community. We strongly encourage applications from First Nations, Inuit, and Métis candidates.

Compensation:

$28-$32/hr based on a part-time role of 24-28 hours weekly.

Scope of Work:

  • Create a FLEET Survey from past FLEET residents, collect/compile survey data to guide studio design sessions
  • Work with FLEET Team to deliver three studio design sessions with artists and members from MST and Urban Indigenous communities 
  • Work with FLEET Team to deliver two Accessibility sessions 
  • Work with FLEET GM and Other Sights Producers to further develop ongoing relationships with Squamish Nation, and to collaboratively create a usage model for the new dedicated FLEET MST Studio for 2028-2030 
  • Work with FLEET GM to develop the programming for the new MST studio 2028-30
  • Work with FLEET GM to shortlist sites for the studio to be hosted by MST 2030-34 
  • Collaborate with FLEET GM on programming that prioritizes MST and Urban Indigenous artists for our current two FLEET studios
  • Provide feedback/suggestions for project improvement 
  • Work with Other Sights and FLEET Team to ensure effective communications with all project partners and the public (signage, project information etc)
  • Work with staff and committees to develop and enhance ongoing/future partnerships
  • Develop strategies for outreach and active community development
  • Design and implement a community plan that builds strong, long-term, and loyal relationships with audience members, supporters and communities.
  • Continue to develop relationships with Indigenous partners and collaborators from the Host Nations (Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh) as well as wider Indigenous communities locally.

Ideal Qualifications:

  • Experience  working with Indigenous nations; specifically Squamish, Musqueam &/or Tsleil-Waututh Nations. Please note that Other Sights will offer mentorship to a candidate that has knowledge relating to Coast Salish arts and culture, and/or experience working with at least one of the host nations.
  • Experience in arts and community programming and facilitating
  • Experience in developing partnerships between Host Nations and arts organizations
  • Familiar with aggregating data from surveys and creating reports 
  • Nimble and hands-on approach, the ability to manage unexpected challenges and adapt to keep projects moving forward
  • Ability to work independently and seek out guidance when needed
  • Experience with Social Media and Communications would be an asset
  • Excellent communication, leadership and organization skills
  • Understanding and sensitivity to the needs of diverse cultural communities is an asset
  • Strong knowledge and commitment to bridge-building within community frameworks
  • Previous experience (work or volunteer) in an arts organization, community centre, educational centre 
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate well in a team environment
  • Resourceful, hands-on and pro-active
  • Demonstrated success with strategy development, implementation and evaluation.

 Deliverables:

  • Regular reporting to the Indigenous Advisory Committee
  • Development and confirmation of FLEET MST studio program
  • Resolution of problems, as required, together with the team
  • Completed feedback report at contract end
  • 3 FLEET Design Sessions with MST communities
  • 2 FLEET Accessibility Design Sessions
  • Regular reporting to FLEET General Manager
