AUDAIN PRIZE FOR OTHER SIGHTS

Posted on Oct 30, 2020 in Events

Earlier in October, Other Sights received news that they would be receiving a $10,000 award from the Audain Art Foundation, sharing the Audain Prize for 2020 with 12 other BC-based Artist-Run Centres: 221A, Access Gallery, Artspeak Gallery, Grunt Gallery, Malaspina Printmakers Society, Or Gallery, UNIT/PITT Society for Art & Critical Awareness, VIVO Media Arts Centre, Western Front, Alternator Centre for Contemporary Art and Open Space Arts Society.

We are grateful to the Foundation for this award. As foundation chair Michael Audain stated, “Artist-run centres are places where emerging artists often get their start,” Audain said. “They serve as vital hubs for a range of cultural activities in their various communities… Given the challenges being faced by artists throughout the province in this pandemic year, we thought that rather than just focusing the attention on a single artist, we would like to support as many artists as possible”

These funds will help the ARC community during this exceptional year of operating during a pandemic. The prize monies total $120,000 this year, an increase from the 2019 award of $100,000.
