From November 2022 – February 2023, FLEET working group hosted four sessions with members from Musqueam, Squamish, Tsleil-Waututh and Urban Indigenous communities. Participants included emerging Indigenous artists and students, established artists, designers, teachers and community members.
Relating the scale of a small studio was important to these sessions as we discussed FLEET studio needs, design and contstruction. Each session was held in a unique small studio space on unceded Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh territories. All spaces were under 350 sqft. Session I was at Crummy Gallery and Urbanarium on Granville Island. Session II was at the A-Frame artist studio space in Stanley Park where Cease Wyss Tuy’t’tanat is the current artist in residence. Session III was held at the Blue Cabin Residency Deckhouse docked at Imperial Landing in Steveston, and Session IV was held at Simcic Architecture’s Office Studio Space. Other Sights and FLEET working group are grateful for this opportunity to listen and learn from this dynamic and thoughtful group.
