the future is floating – rescue remedy
Rescue Remedy was the third event in Other Sights’ the future is floating public event series held aboard Tribal Warrior’s Mari Nawi vessel in Sydney Harbour.
Rescue Remedy featured the following artists: T’uy’t’tanat-Cease Wyss (Sḵwx̱ wú7mesh, Stó:lō, Irish, Métis, Kanaka Maoli, Swiss, Latai Taumoepeau (Punake from the Island Kingdom of Tonga, Gadigal Ngurra), Salote Tawale (Fijian and Anglo Australian) and Cindy Mochizuki (Japanese Canadian from Musqueam, Skwxwu7mesh and Tsleil Waututh Territories)
During this event artists and event participants were invited to consider what we might need collectively to bring into the future with us: talismans, embodied knowledge, ceremony, collective joy and sustenance were the order of the evening. The artists made sukiyaki and shared it with the audience, gifted talismans for protection and meditation, and led the crowd in a liturgical dance on the top deck of the boat. Both generosity and collectivity emerged as a speculative antidotes to the environmental emergencies that may come to define our futures.
This event featured a Welcome to Country by Venessa Possum, Salt Ritual – Cleanse the Body, Opening of the Talisman Circle – Protect the Soul, Salote Learns the End of the Lunar New Year Suki Yaki, Liturgical Dance – Customary public worship dance of the sea, Icing the Ocean, Feasting and the Closing of the Talisman.
